Packing food and making aluma-heads

Down to the last hours before heading out to Utah. Last minute prep at a frantic pace.

Sorting through various climbing gear: pitons, copperheads, aluma-heads, hooks, cams, all about 100 pounds of just climbing gear! I’m having to make dozens of aluma-heads, because those work far better in the soft “rock” than do copperheads (copper is a stiffer metal than aluminum, so it doesn’t meld as well). Here is a short video clip of the making of an aluma-head (HERE… about 40MB).

I made up 12 one-day bundles of food. One bundle for each day I project the climb to take. Calories have to be counted, and variety is a secondary consideration to being sure to have well-rounded meals that are mostly canned. Here is a video clip of sorting food and making them into one-day bundles (HERE… about 290MB).

Water is important! I’m bringing about 3 liters per day (just under a gallon).

The cars are mostly packed now, for departure tomorrow morning. Matt Lauren and Rocky Cardwell will drive one of the cars and help us move loads out to the base of the tower (about 1 1/2 miles). Many pictures and more video clips to follow. Future photo and media content should be much more interesting. 🙂
